Mosquito Control Services for Portland Yards

Mosquito-Borne Disease Activity in Connecticut

West Nile virus has been detected in Connecticut every year since 1999 and remains the state’s most widespread mosquito-borne disease. The mosquitoes that carry it are most active from dusk to dawn, with peak activity running from July through September. In 2025, six human cases were reported statewide, resulting in six hospitalizations and one death.

The first human West Nile virus case identified in Connecticut’s 2026 season was a Middlesex County resident. Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), a rare but serious illness spread by mosquitoes, was detected in mosquito samples from Middlesex County in 2024. The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station monitors mosquito populations and disease activity across the state, and their data highlights why this isn’t a background concern for Portland homeowners.
